Accreditation

The Association Montessori International, or AMI, is the international organization founded in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori to maintain the integrity of her life's work, and to ensure that it would be perpetuated after her death.  It represents authentic Montessori. AMI-trained guides (teachers) go through rigorous training often three times as long as other types of Montessori training where they learn to observe and to create their own "albums" based on their observations. Through this process, they learn the Montessori philosophy from the trainers, who are considered masters in the field.

Plains to Peaks Montessori is not only the sole AMI recognized school in Denver - it is the only one in Colorado.

To obtain and maintain this accreditation, Plains to Peaks must adhere to strict standards.  Our guides must be AMI certified, a process that takes 2-4 years.  Most have a college degree, and a few have a Masters Degree.  The materials used and lessons given must be according to the AMI curriculum, and we are required to have an AMI consultation every three years, both for quality assurance and to support and offer suggestions to our guides.  The daily schedule allows for uninterrupted work cycles to develop students' concentration, typically 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon.
