Mission

Our Purpose

  • To provide high quality Montessori education based on the principles Dr. Maria Montessori founded through the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI).
  • To cultivate and nurture the development of the child through the Montessori philosophy, including development of the self through exploration of the prepared environment, creating a community of support and care for the child, and individualization of education through careful observation.
  • To cultivate and nurture the development of the school’s community through parent education, assisting guides-in-training, community outreach programs, and participation in the Montessori community.

Our Philosophy:

  • Children first- every time.  The environment is created to aid the children’s self-development. This includes the training, attitudes, and skills of the adults within the environment.  “Free the child’s potential and you will transform him into the world.”
  • Content employees take good care of children.  By providing a positive work environment centered on training, support, and developing retention of excellent staff, we provide an amazing environment for children, in which they can learn, grow, explore, and care.
  • No one is in this alone.  “Help me to do it myself.”  The community must offer support, inclusion, and growth for all its members - children, parents, staff, and other visitors - without preventing their development.
  • Education is creation of the future.  We demonstrate the values of Montessori: peace, compassion, responsibility, inquisitiveness, and justice; work always towards building a better future.  We work with other Montessori schools locally to improve childcare standards, with Montessori schools and educators in the US to train more guides, and with Montessori educators around the world to bring education wherever it is needed most.
  • Montessori works!  We promote Montessori as a thriving, viable, option for meeting long-term educational needs of children, but also of adults, including not only alumni, but also employers, coworkers, and community members.  Adults who were Montessori children have great skills as employees, leaders, and coworkers.  They are independent, creative people who bring vibrancy, flexibility, and innovation to the world!

Our Understanding

  • A child is driven from within to know the world, leading to curiosity and dynamic learning.  The Montessori environment is full of materials to explore, carefully chosen to provide learning in specific areas.
  • The child is self-educating, constructing knowledge and mental images through his/her direct experiences of the world.  The Montessori guide does not teach, but provides opportunities for rich learning experiences and guidance on problem-solving, asking questions, and doing research.
  • The child comes to know the world through the senses.  A child must be able to touch and move, to smell and feel and taste and listen and see the world to learn.  The Montessori materials and activities are designed to be concrete, manipulative ways of learning about different aspects of the world.
  • The child repeats activities until they are mastered to the child’s satisfaction.  The Montessori schedule has long blocks of time for the child to work, uninterrupted, as long as he/she would like to concentrate.
  • The child learns that which he/she finds fascinating.  The Montessori environment and the invitations from the guide are designed to make the hundreds of materials and lessons delightful and intriguing.
  • The child is orderly and focused.  The Montessori environments and staff are respectful, calm, and peaceful, meeting the child’s inner need for an atmosphere supporting concentration.
  • The child changes through time, experience, and personal development. The Montessori environments are each designed for a limited range of developmental stages, and within each, the environment and materials may be chosen according to the needs of each individual.
